Post-Graduate Year 2

Shaymaa Abdelmalek, MD

Dr. Abdelmalek attended medical school at the Suez Canal University Faculty of Medicine in Egypt.

She chose the Marion Health Family Medicine program because it is a new program, and therefore feels that to be one of the first class of residents and having the opportunity to shape the program for upcoming generations of residents is a great honor, privilege, and responsibility, and at the same time one that is truly impressive and appealing.

Dr. Abdelmalek also believes it will offer a chance of getting customized learning opportunities, which will be even greater in the Marion Health Family Medicine program than bigger programs. Additionally, she chose Marion Health because of the friendly, warm, close-knit, and family-like hospital community, which she strongly believes is an indispensable requirement for her as a Resident to be molded into the best version of a clinician she can.

After residency, Dr. Abdelmalek would like to continue as a primary care provider in a rural community, serving all age groups whether it is pediatric, geriatric, obstetric, and adult medicine.

Charu Agarwal, MD

Dr. Agarwal attended medical school at Sri Siddhartha Medical College in India.

She chose the Marion Health Family Medicine program because she felt that Marion Health, from faculty to administration to staff, valued community, people, and humanism as much as providing excellent care. Dr. Agarwal also felt confident that Marion Health offered the perfect intersection of robust medical education and friendly, nurturing, and welcoming people.

Additionally, after learning more about the Marion community, she felt it was a wonderful location for a young family, and says that she, her husband, and their daughter are thrilled to begin this new chapter in Marion.

Dr. Agarwal’s professional interests lie in preventative health, holistic medicine, and primary care practice. After residency, she envisions further integrating these interests into her practice, contributing to research in holistic health approaches, and mentoring future generations of compassionate healthcare providers. Additionally, Dr. Agarwal’s aim is to make a meaningful difference in the lives of the underprivileged, fostering awareness and promoting well-being within the community.

Afshan Amray, MD

She chose the Marion Health Family Medicine program because she believes that a residency training’s core strength depends on its teaching faculty. She believes that Marion Health faculty members, including Dr. Zambrano and Dr. Srikanth, pride themselves on providing all-round training and treating everyone as a family member.

After Residency, Dr. Singh plans to go into primary care practice, as well as teaching, and inventing new possibilities in curing diseases through research.

Naima Sultana, MD

Dr. Sultana attended medical school at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital in Bangladesh.

She chose Marion Health Family Medicine program because the program director and his dedicated team were encouraging, organized, and supportive throughout the interview process. She also felt that there would be plenty of hands-on experience in a rural setting at Marion Health which she feels is essential to becoming a competent clinician.

After Residency, she wants to practice family medicine in an area of need where she can practice holistic patient-centered care.

Kamalpreet Kaur, MD

She completed her first year of Family Medicine residency at the Wright Center for Graduate Medical Education Program in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, and earned her medical degree from Government Medical College Patiala in India.

As a transfer resident, finding the right program was very important to me. During my interview with Marion Health, I immediately felt welcomed and supported not only by the faculty, but also by the residents and staff. That strong sense of belonging stood out to me right away.

What also drew me to the program was the unique opportunity to train in a setting without competing residency programs. I saw this as an environment where I could gain extensive hands-on experience across multiple specialties, continue growing under the guidance of dedicated mentors, and contribute meaningfully by sharing what I have learned so far. It felt like the ideal place to build lasting relationships with both patients and colleagues.

After residency, I envision myself practicing as a primary care physician in a community-based outpatient setting, where I can provide comprehensive, continuity-focused care to individuals and families. I also hope to give back by teaching future medical students or residents, sharing the clinical knowledge and personal insights I have gained throughout my journey.
